On 1 February 2024, the German Federal Ministry of Justice published a draft bill to modernise the German Arbitration Act. This reform is long overdue: The last comprehensive reform of the German Arbitration Act took place more than 25 years ago. Since then, a lot has happened both on the German market and internationally. The proposal reflects important initiatives to modernize the German legislative framework, however, there is still a long way to go to fully achieve the Ministry's stated objectives of promoting arbitration in Germany.
