Jo En is a private equity and M&A lawyer who specialises in advising private equity and other financial investors, as well as international corporates and utilities, in the energy sector (across power, renewable energy, energy transition and oil & gas).
Jo En has led a number of prominent cross-border transactions across Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the UK, such as the establishment of fund-owned renewable energy platforms; the structuring and development of renewable energy projects (including shareholder, consortium and other partnership arrangements); and the acquisition and disposal of fund-owned portfolios of renewable energy assets.
Jo En has received recognition as a "leading lawyer" in its Projects, Energy and Natural Resources – Power (including Electricity, Nuclear and Renewables) Legal 500 (UK) category who "proactively engages" with clients and delivers "advice which is clear, commercial and on point". She has also been recognised as one in ten "Women of the Energy Transition: The New Generation" by the Transition Economist.
Jo En also advises clients on ESG and human rights matters, including the incorporation of such considerations into investment decision-making processes, M&A, commercial, supply chain and joint venture agreements, as well as facilitating the effective management of actual and potential ESG/human rights impacts associated with business operations around the world. She regularly advises on the UK Modern Slavery Act and other related corporate governance matters.
In addition, Jo En has held, and continues to hold various pro bono, leadership and mentoring roles for charitable organisations, members of the community, trainees and associates. She has provided pro-bono support to organisations such as the Institute for Human Rights and Business, Advocates for International Development and female empowerment community organisations for many years.
Jo En has served as a research associate to the Vale Columbia Centre for Sustainable Development and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative. She holds a Master of Laws from Columbia University, New York, United States and Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, Australia. She has been invited to speak at events/conferences on the Modern Slavery Act, including those organised by the UK Law Society. She also publishes on a range of topics relating to renewable energy and ESG, including publications such as Lexis Nexis and PFI, as well as publications of the Oxford University Press.
