Matthew is a partner in our global international arbitration practice
His focus is on international arbitration relating to international projects and the energy and resources sectors, with a particular focus on investment treaty arbitration, gas pricing and gas supply disputes conducted under a mix of common and civil laws, with seats in London, Paris, Stockholm and Hong Kong among others.
Matthew has experience in advising a broad range of clients including sovereign and federal governments, international energy businesses, multinational corporations and financial institutions globally. He acts as lead advocate in complex arbitrations and leads our group’s most significant disputes including recently acting for clients in the energy and resources sectors in Geneva-seated UNCITRAL proceedings; Paris-seated, ICC proceedings (ACWA Power; and SEGAS and HSBC); and London-seated UNCITRAL proceedings (Nigeria LNG).
He is a member of the London Court of International Arbitration, the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators. He is also vice chair of the City of London Law Society Arbitration Committee.
Matthew's work in International Arbitration and Public International Law has been recognised repeatedly by Chambers & Partners and Legal 500. He is listed in the Legal 500 International Arbitration Hall of Fame and International Arbitration Powerlist, and is 'Recommended' in Who's Who Arbitration.
