Rebecca Hughes is a senior associate in our planning, environment and first nations practice
Rebecca has extensive experience in environment, planning, litigation and indigenous land law and has lived and worked in Victoria, the Northern Territory and New South Wales.
Rebecca's practice includes advising on statutory acquisition processes, conducting environmental due diligence, defending environmental prosecutions, and assisting clients in responding to statutory notices. Rebecca has successfully conducted litigation in both Federal and State/Territory jurisdictions.
Rebecca also has significant experience in native title (including compensation), indigenous cultural heritage and Aboriginal land rights schemes across Australia, and has acted both for proponents and indigenous land owners. Rebecca has successfully negotiated major indigenous land use agreements and cultural heritage agreements, and represented clients in native title and cultural heritage proceedings.
Rebecca is familiar with a wide range of industry sectors, including transport, telecommunications, utilities, pastoral and aquaculture. She enjoys working with a broad range of clients, including statutory authorities, major corporations, and Aboriginal Land Councils.
