The SMART Legal Commitment is designed to support vacation scheme students and future trainees who may face financial barriers in pursuing their legal careers. Through the commitment Ashurst will provide candidates with essential funding grants for costs related to accommodation, technology equipment, professional clothing, and other necessary expenses.
This initiative serves as a confidential resource for students and future trainees seeking funding assistance, managed directly by Aspiring Solicitors on the firm's behalf. Details about funding requests are not shared with Ashurst, thereby removing any potential stigma for those requesting support.
Helen Burton, London Office Managing Partner at Ashurst:
"At Ashurst, we believe that talent should be the only criteria for success. Collaborating with Aspiring Solicitors on the SMART commitment reflects our dedication to enhancing social mobility and creating a more inclusive and diverse legal profession. By removing financial barriers, this initiative goes a long way towards ensuring the next generation of legal talent has the opportunity to thrive."
Carolyn O'Connor, Senior HR Manager, National Early Careers Programs at Ashurst, added:
"We are proud to be a part of the SMART Legal Commitment. This initiative aligns perfectly with our ongoing efforts to address barriers to access to the legal profession and to support early careers talent. By providing financial assistance to those who need it most, we are helping to create a more inclusive and diverse legal community."
Chris White, Founder of Aspiring Solicitors, said:
"We're pleased to be partnering with Ashurst. The firm's commitment to improving socio-economic diversity is clear through all strands of its work, including Access Ashurst, its flagship social mobility programme in the UK. We hope this collaboration can support even more young people to access opportunities and ultimately promote a profession that reflects the diversity of the society it serves."
