Global law firm Ashurst has appointed Gavin Weir as a partner in its corporate practice in the UK, as the firm continues to invest in and expand its public and private M&A offering.
Gavin has over 20 years' experience in domestic and cross-border mergers, acquisitions and corporate finance, acting for a range of clients across the financial services sector. He will join the Firm as UK Head of Financial Institutions M&A.
"Gavin is widely recognised in the market for being one of the leading financial services M&A lawyers in the City, and we are delighted he is joining Ashurst," Jason Radford, Global Co-Head of Corporate, commented. "His deep expertise across both corporate transactions and financial services is a perfect complement to our existing strong offering in this regard. Across our UK and European business in particular, we are seeing a significant upward trend in transactional work in the sector, especially cross-border opportunities. In his leadership role, Gavin's remit will include co-ordinating, and continuing to grow, this business across the region."
Jason added that Gavin's appointment reflects the firm's broader focus on the financial services sector, and the continuing growth of its global corporate capability. “In line with our strategy, we continue to invest in and build out our transactional capability across core product areas in industry sectors where we have first class, cross practice and multi-jurisdictional capabilities. Gavin's arrival signals the next stage in advancing our ambitious growth strategy. His breadth and depth of experience further enhances both our industry focus on financial services, and our M&A capabilities with regard to that sector, as well as adding to our strong global bench."
Gavin said: "Ashurst offers the perfect platform for me and my clients given the firm's exceptional credentials and strategic focus on public and private M&A, particularly in financial services and private capital. I am looking forward to joining the well-established team in London and globally, working with the other members of the firm's outstanding Bank Industry Group and fintech practice, to continue to grow the financial institutions M&A brand."
